A critical responsibility of receiving federal funding for research is reporting on the progress of the research, including on studies involving human subjects. In addition, institutions are required to report any investigator financial conflicts of interest. This page provides information and resources on the types of reports required of recipients.
Recipients of federal awards must submit regular reports, on the various aspects of their research, including progress reports, reports related to human subject and clinical trials, and conflict of interests.

- Research Performance Progress Reports (RPPR) - All progress reports for NIH grants must be submitted electronically using the Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR) module in eRA Commons (See OER’s RPPR webpage for details). Progress reports document the recipient’s accomplishments and compliance with terms of award.
- Trainee Diversity Report - A subset of information required for specific mechanisms for the RPPRs is the Trainee Diversity Report. Institutions receiving specified institutional research training grants, institutional career development awards and research education awards must submit the automated Trainee Diversity Report electronically with their RPPRs, including annual, interim, and final RPPRs. - Human Subjects System (HSS) Reports - A subset of information for the RPPRs will be for studies involving human subjects. In these cases, the Human Subject link will appear in Section G.4.b Inclusion Enrollment Data of the RPPR.
- Extramural Trainee Reporting and Career Tracking (xTRACT) - The xTRACT module, accessed via eRA Commons, allows applicants, recipients, and assistants to create research training tables for progress reports and institutional training grant applications. Initially, xTRACT will support the following training grant award mechanisms: T32, TL1, T90/R90, and T15 for both progress reports and grant applications.
- Financial Conflict of Interest (FCOI) Reports - The FCOI module allows institutional users to manage the Financial Conflict of Interest (FCOI) reporting process for their particular institution by reporting the existence of any identified FCOI to the granting agency as required by the federal grant and cooperative agreement regulation (42 CFR Part 50 Subpart F).
