Submitting Your Final Invention Statement

You must submit a Final Invention Statement (FIS) within 120 days following the termination of a grant award. The statement should include all inventions that were conceived or first reduced to practice during the course of work under the grant or award, from the original effective date of support through the date of completion or termination.

All actions are performed from the Submit Final Invention Statement screen, which is accessed via the Closeout Status screen. From here, SOs and PIs to do one of the following:

  • Certify that no inventions were conceived or first reduced to practice during the course of work
  • Add and submit information on inventions conceived/used during the course of work

NOTE: Although a PI can create the Final Invention Statement, only a SO can submit it to Agency.
