Address Types Definitions

eRA systems collect the address and email information of its users for multiple purposes. Some of this information is collected and maintained by the account owners themselves via their Commons Personal Profile, while other address information is entered by internal eRA system users, including SROs.

Internal users who see this information - often within the Persons module - will note multiple address types such as HOM, MLG, and RES, as well as others. The different address types can identify where and how the information was collected, as well as what it is used for.

It's important that external Commons users (i.e., PIs and Reviewers) maintain their profiles correctly as this affects communications and functionality for both themselves as well as SROs and others. Commons users are instructed in help topics, FAQs, and user guides where to enter contact information and for what purpose each collection of data serves.

Addresses Maintained by Commons Users (Applicants and Reviewers)

The following addresses are maintained by Commons users on their Personal Profiles. When the accounts belong to a registered Commons user, only that user (or an eRA Super User) can make updates to the information.

Reviewers enter this information in the Commons Personal Profile Reviewer Information panel, under the Home Address section.

Addresses Maintained by Internal Users (Federal Agencies)

The following address types are maintained by internal users via the Persons module. Persons can be accessed by several eRA systems including Peer Review, Committee Management, Receipt & Referral, etc.

NOTE: For more information on all of the eRA systems that use the Persons module, please refer to the Persons Search Online Help.

Some address types are obsolete, but may still appear in the Persons module, although they are not used. These address types are marked below.

PIs and Reviewers do not have access to these address types.
